KARACHI: Pakistan is actively promoting its rich Buddhist heritage to Japanese religious leaders with an aim to boost tourism and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
During his visit to Expo 2025 Osaka, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan met with the 79th Abbot of Shōgoin Monji, who is also the president of the Kyoto Buddhist Association.
The meeting focused on promoting religious tourism and inter-religious understanding. Khan stressed that the Gandhara civilization sites in Pakistan are a major destination for Buddhist pilgrimage and cultural exchange.
The Abbot expressed keen interest and promised to lead a delegation to visit Pakistan. He also promised to encourage other Buddhist centres in Japan to organize pilgrimages and cultural visits to the Gandhara sites in Pakistan.
