Casino Tycoon Chow’s Wife Heidi Chan Turns Buddhist After His Jailing

by Denise

Heidi Chan, wife of Macau gambling tycoon Chow Cheuk Wah, has embraced Buddhism and spiritual practice since her husband was arrested for illegal gambling and money laundering in 2021.

According to QQ, Chan has been sharing insights from Buddhist scriptures and now has a calmer and more reflective attitude towards life. She stressed the importance of “letting go of the past” and participated in a release of life event with her daughter. She also actively supports vegetarianism during Buddha’s Birthday.

In a recent social media post, Chan shared a quote: “All past emotions, whether painful or happy, disappeared without a trace like ripples on the water.”

“There is no need to relive these,” the post continued. “Dwelling on the sorrow or glory of the past is a waste of time.”

When questioned, Chan remained silent about her personal life. Despite the challenges and Chow’s imprisonment, she has devoted herself to her family. She maintains a close relationship with her parents-in-law and spends quality time with her children, including those from her previous relationship.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, Kelly Chen’s style of doing things has won her admiration, and her public image has also changed from a “lady of the upper class” to a strong, independent woman, which has won the public’s respect.

Despite the major financial blows her husband faced, including asset freezes and huge fines, Ms. Chen and her children still live comfortably in a luxury home in Hong Kong. Today, she is a certified yoga instructor and has opened yoga studios in Macau and Hong Kong.

Kelly Chen is Zhou Zhuohua’s second wife. Before marriage, she worked in the insurance industry. The two have two daughters.

According to the Associated Press, Zhou Kaixuan, 51, is the founder and former CEO of Suncity Group, which was once the largest casino junket operator in Macau.

According to the Global Times, in November 2021, the Macau police arrested Zhou and other suspects on suspicion of illegal gambling and money laundering, and the case has been transferred to the procuratorate.

In January 2023, the Macau court sentenced him to fraud, leading a criminal organization, and operating illegal gambling.

He was sentenced to 18 years in prison and is currently being held in Macau’s Coloane Prison.

Chau is also known for his affair with Malaysian-American model and actress Mandy Lieu, 39, with whom he has four children. After the two separated in 2019, Mandy Lieu moved to the UK with her children, according to The Straits Times. Chau paid Mandy Lieu a “breakup fee” of HK$300 million (about US$38.4 million).
