On June 23, 2025, Master Jinyu, the current head of the Jogye Order, the largest Buddhist sect in South Korea, will preside over a solemn Buddhist ceremony, the 108 prostrations, at the main hall of Jogyesa Temple in Seoul, praying for world peace and human harmony.

This ceremony is not only a traditional Buddhist practice, but also has special symbolic significance, because this day coincides with the 1000th day since Master Jinyu took office as the head of the Jogye Order.

The 108 prostrations are an important ritual in Buddhist practice, symbolizing the confession of 108 kinds of troubles, purifying the body and mind, and are an important way to express devout faith and pray for the well-being of all beings.

Master Jinyu chose to perform the 108 prostrations on this memorable day, which not only reflects his persistent pursuit of the vision of peace, but also shows the continued attention of the Jogye Order under his leadership to social responsibility.

On the day of the ceremony, it is expected that monks, believers, and representatives from the Korean and international Buddhist community will gather at Jogyesa Temple to participate in and witness this solemn moment.

Caoxi Temple said that this is not only a religious ceremony, but also a spiritual response to the challenges of war, conflict, climate crisis and other challenges in today’s society.

Through the form of collective prayer, the Buddhist community conveys its firm belief in peace, coexistence and compassion.

Since taking office in September 2022, Master Zhenyu has actively promoted the reform and openness of Caoxi Sect, emphasizing the importance of inclusiveness, acceptance of multiculturalism and religious dialogue.

He advocates that Buddhism should play a bridging role in modern society, not only guiding people’s hearts in faith, but also speaking out on public issues. This peace prayer event is a concrete manifestation of his concept.

Caoxi Sect also stated that this event will allow believers around the world to participate simultaneously through live broadcast on the Internet, providing a platform for Buddhists around the world to pray together and practice peace.

At the same time, to commemorate the 1,000th day of Master Zhenyu’s inauguration, Caoxi Temple will also hold a series of activities such as Buddhist cultural exhibitions and peace lectures on the same day to further promote the concept of peace and Buddhist values.

Analysts pointed out that Master Zhenyu chose to launch a peace prayer event at a critical point in his term, which is not only a manifestation of spiritual leadership, but also conveys the positive attitude of the Korean Buddhist community in contemporary society. In a global situation full of uncertainty, the voice of peace from religion is particularly precious.
